The Female Orgasm

The subject of the female orgasm has been an intriguing topic of discussion for centuries. There is a never ending aura of mystique around this complicated subject. There has been extensive research done, resulting in many individual concepts and theories. Experts on the subject of the female orgasm still disagree on certain aspects. For many women this phenomenon is still elusive and a mystery.

Most women want to have orgasms. A generation ago adult females did not have climaxes. Some doctors believe it was normal for women not to have experienced orgasms. In the late 1970's doctors still believed the female orgasm did not exist. Fast forward a couple of decades and it's a whole new day. Many females are having orgasms, and in medical opinion it is believed that all women should be able to orgasm.

Sexual climax

Sexual climax is the moment of the most intense pleasure in sexual intercourse. For a woman to climax she has to be aroused and stimulated properly. For a woman the physical act of sex is just part of her intention of getting a sexual climax. What happens when a woman has an orgasm? Well it's similar to what happens to a man. There is an extreme feeling of excitement which continues to increase or build until there is a blast of ultimate ecstasy. The characteristics of the orgasm itself are surges of contractions in the sex organs occurring almost every 0.7 seconds or so. Men are very familiar with this throbbing sensation of toe curling pleasure which is accompanied by the gushing of semen.

The female orgasm is however slightly different. Some women do produce fluid at orgasm. The term ejaculate is widely used when men and women have and orgasm. However contrary to popular belief only a small amount of women ejaculate, most do not.

What takes place during climax

During arousal the woman's heart beats very fast and her breathing becomes quick. Her nipples become stiff and she tightens various muscles in her body. Some women get a flush complection and the breast and clitoris become slightly enlarged. Blood rushes to the pelvic area (engorgement) causing changes in the vagina such as the internal area stretching and becoming wider. Secretion takes place inside the vagina. As she becomes more and more aroused, more blood-flow to the pelvic area takes place. However the clitoris retracts under the clitorial hood and becomes smaller in length, signaling inevitable orgasm. Some women make sounds while others make faces accompanying the extreme pleasure they feel during orgasm.

Signs of an orgasm

when the orgasm itself happens the muscles contract in the vagina, uterus and anus. The first contractions are the most intense, which occur at a rate of about 1 per second. The contractions become less intense and happen at a random rate as the orgasm continues to completion.

  • During orgasm muscles throughout the body may contract along with the pelvic area.
  • During orgasm women may make sounds and facial expressions which indicate pleasure.
  • During orgasm some women spray fluid from their urethra, this is a female ejaculation.
  • During orgasm the "sex flush" or redness becomes more pronounced and may spread over the body.
  • At the final point of orgasm the entire body may become momentarily stiff.
  • An intense orgasm can have between 10 to 15 contractions, while a mild one may have 3 to 5.

What does the female orgasm feel like

Many women ask "What does an orgasm feel like?" This is very hard to answer, reason being, as individuals we tend to perceive feelings differently. This includes physical stimuli. Some women describe an orgasm as feeling a "throbbing sensation". Some describe it in a much more dramatic way. Like "the peak of ultimate pleasure in a few seconds". "It's like being liberated" different people have many different descriptions.

The clitoris

T
he clitoris is only present in females. It can be located near the anterior junction of the labia minora, above the opening urethra and vagina. The sole purpose of the clitoris is to induce sexual pleasure. When a women is sexually aroused the shaft and glands fill with blood (engorgement) resulting in an increase in size. The clitoris can be stimulated directly or indirectly by touch. The penis does not touch the clitoris during intercourse. The thrusting of the penis in the vagina moves the labia minora, it is this movement of the lips against the clitoris that cause the female orgasm.

Sensual receptors

Women and men have a hormone that causes "hornines". This hormone is known as Testosterone. Testosterone receptors in the brain are necessary for the flow of serotonin and depamine. These are both responsible for making us feel good and seeking after pleasure. The libido is stimulated by the flow of these neurotransmitters.

A woman has receptors in her breasts, nipples, genitals and brain. But the main receptor is the one in the clitoris. Without the clitoris it would be impossible for a woman to have an orgasm. Directly or indirectly the clitoris must be stimulated, either by the penis or fingers.

Being that the clitoris is so small, it takes extra effort to stimulate it during sex. Indirect stimulation is sufficient enough to cause climax in 30 to 40% of women. Many other woman must use there hands or have their partner fondle and caress her clitoris the way she wants them to, to produce a climax. As brought out earlier in this article, doctors believe that all woman should be able to orgasm, but many have yet to do so, and sadly some will never experience the female orgasm.

Until next time;

What's your pleasure ;-)
